Project Objectives
Depict South Carolina’s unique game‑day setting. The pickup‑shoot brief instructed us to film the tailgate park beside the stadium and the Cockaboose train cars outside Williams–Brice Stadium.
Secure special access. Connor’s follow‑up email asked whether there would be two shooters in Columbia and noted he would pass along details for stadium and Cockaboose access.
Project Scope
Pre‑production: We obtained media credentials and arranged access to the privately owned Cockabooses. The shot list emphasised capturing the pre‑game “Sandstorm” entrance and interviewing fans in the tailgate park. We prepared signage and consent forms and confirmed travel reimbursements.
Production: Our DP captured scenes of fans tailgating with cockaboose railcars, the live mascot Sir Big Spur crowing, and the dramatic team entrance accompanied by “2001: A Space Odyssey.” We filmed the stadium under the lights and crowd “Sandstorm” towels waving in unison.
Post‑production: Footage was uploaded to Frame.io and any necessary waivers for Cockaboose owners were included. Lowkey Films integrated our shots into an episode highlighting South Carolina’s passionate fan base.
Results
The Columbia episode stood out for its unique setting—the tailgate park with luxury train cars—and the intense energy inside Williams–Brice Stadium. Fans appreciated seeing traditions like the “Gamecock Walk” and the use of the rooster crow.
Lessons Learned
Access coordination: Gaining permission to shoot inside Cockabooses required early communication and clear explanation of the project.
Multiple cameras for dynamic entrances: Filming South Carolina’s dramatic entrance benefited from placing cameras at field level and in the stands.
Fan engagement: Interviews with fans and “vox pops” captured the unique personality of Gamecock supporters.
