Florida Gators: College Town - Gator chomp, chomp, chomp!

For the Gainesville episode, our cameras followed fans performing the iconic Gator Chomp and tailgating near Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. We conducted a scheduled local interview and ensured every on‑camera participant gave consent, per production guidelines. Additional footage from a splinter shoot enriched the narrative

Project Objectives

  • Capture the Gator spirit. Connor’s emails called for filming the “Gator Chomp” and tailgate scenes around Gainesville, including an interview with a local subject.

  • Avoid alcohol and secure releases. As with other towns, we needed verbal consent on camera and to film only people over 25.

Project Scope

  • Pre‑production: A shot list was provided for the Gainesville shoot and a single interview was scheduled. We printed location signs and briefed self‑shooters on avoiding alcohol and obtaining releases.

  • Production: Our DP captured sunrise tailgates near Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, fans performing the Gator Chomp, and an interview with a Gainesville resident about the town’s college‑football culture. Additional B‑roll was filmed during the splinter‑unit shoot on August 31 (Gainesville & Tuscaloosa).

  • Post‑production: Footage was uploaded to Frame.io and flagged to Lowkey with details about consent statements from on‑camera participants.

Results

  • The Gainesville episode delivered high‑energy visuals of the Gator Nation and included an interview segment providing local perspective. Audiences enjoyed the mix of fan antics and scenic shots of campus.

Lessons Learned

  1. Single interviews require extra prep: Ensuring the Gainesville interview subject gave on‑camera consent and delivered usable sound bites improved narrative flow.

  2. Morning light is golden: Early‑morning tailgate shots offered flattering light and avoided midday heat.

  3. Backup coverage: Splinter‑unit pickups allowed us to bolster footage for the edit.
