North Carolina Tar Heels: College Town - Chapel Hill is Carolina Blue, Where Tar Heel Pride Run’s Deep!

We captured the electric game‑day atmosphere in Chapel Hill, filming fans on Franklin Street, tailgates around Kenan Stadium and the Tar Heels’ entrance onto the field. Our crew obtained stadium access and followed strict filming guidelines—avoiding alcohol shots and securing verbal consent from featured fans. The result is a vivid portrait of Tar Heel pride.

Project Objectives

  • Capture Chapel Hill’s game‑day atmosphere. The brief called for a cinematic portrayal of Tar Heel pride at Franklin Street and Kenan Stadium, spotlighting fans, tailgates and traditions like the Old Well and Bell Tower. Connor’s pre‑production notes stressed filming people over 25 and avoiding alcohol in all shots.

  • Highlight Toyota’s brand integration. As the series sponsor, Toyota wanted its vehicles and signage subtly incorporated into crowd shots and campus B‑roll.

Project Scope

  • Pre‑production: La Familia’s DP team received shot lists and schedules from Lowkey Films for each town. For Chapel Hill, we liaised with UNC stadium access staff and obtained media credentials to film the Tar Heels running onto the field. We ensured all on‑camera participants provided verbal consent with their full name as required by the client.

  • Production: On game day our camera operators captured early‑morning tailgates on Franklin Street, interviews with lifelong Tar Heel fans, aerial shots of the campus and the team’s entrance to “Here Come the Tar Heels.” All crowd shots were framed from behind or wide to avoid release issues.

  • Post‑production: Raw footage was uploaded to Lowkey Films’ Frame.io workspace by Monday morning, per the client’s deadline

mail.google.com. Lowkey handled the final edit, weaving our cinematography into a narrative hosted by Saturday Down South.

Results

  • The Chapel Hill episode premiered on SaturdayDownSouth.com and YouTube, featuring sweeping shots of the campus, passionate interviews and Toyota vehicles integrated into tailgate scenes. Viewers praised the cinematography and authenticity of Tar Heel culture.

Lessons Learned

  1. Credentialing is critical: Early coordination with UNC athletics ensured access to the field for the team’s entrance and avoided last‑minute issues with media policies.

  2. Permissions and releases: Obtaining on‑camera consent and avoiding alcohol in shots kept the footage compliant with sponsor guidelines

  3. Upload discipline: Rapid turnaround of raw footage via Frame.io allowed editors in the UK to start cutting immediately
